The Center for Translational Research in Peritoneal and Digestive Disorders aims to bring together and coordinate a complex and complete multidisciplinary team, with the common goal of research in the field of pathology of the peritoneum and digestive system (liver, biliary tract, pancreas, cavitary digestive organs) and to find applications of the results in the clinical environment.
This involves a multidisciplinary collaboration between researchers in the fields of molecular biology, pharmacology, genetics, immunology, and other basic sciences, together with doctors specializing in gastroenterology, surgery, oncology, imagistics, histopathology, psychology and other relevant specialties. The center focuses on the study of the basic mechanisms of peritoneal diseases, such as peritoneal carcinomatosis, and gastrointestinal and hepato-bilio-pancreatic pathologies, including malignant and benign conditions.
Education and training of researchers and clinicians in these specialized areas are also key components of the center’s mission, along with informing and counselling patients and their families about the target pathologies.
